Dry January

January is the month when most people consider having a month off the booze. But why January? And why a month?

Let’s start with January itself. With a combination of post-Christmas and winter blues, it can be a difficult month. And with alcohol itself being a depressant, January-drinking can add an extra blue layer. And why a month? Well, there has been oft-cited evidence that suggests that 4-6 weeks off the booze does wonders for liver rejuvenation and general health, with studies reporting significantly better sleep, more energy, lower stress, less colds, and weight loss, in those that took time off the booze.

Whilst the benefits of a dry month in comparison to sustained moderate drinking can be overstated, there is no doubt that going for a Dry January is the best place to start for most people.
